Approaches to the Memory of the Territory

The project “Altares” is conceived as an intervention in urban space, aiming to resignify disused spaces and found objects within the established perimeter of a territory through a change of context. Using elements associated with an aesthetic of the sacred, these spaces and objects become part of the arrangement of an altar directed towards the same territory from which they originate.

La Paternal is a neighborhood with a long historical background in the city of Buenos Aires. Currently, various situations and conditions intersect its territory. The idea of the project is to establish a relationship between memory and territory through the Altar. Particularly, the notion of loss, subjectively generated, to be materialized in space with an action that places elements that are part of the socio-cultural context of the neighborhood in an environment belonging to the symbolic dimension of the sacred/taboo/introspective.
